Bulldogs Top Wild 4-0 Reach Finals
The Wild having sent the number 3 and 2 teams into losers bracket and then out of the tourney could not upset the Bulldogs. A rbi single from Brandon McKinney in the fourth plated the first run. A Kyle Wooden homer, the first of the tourney, accounted for the second run. A two run seventh was started by Trevor Edwards' double, single from Aaron Jones, walk to Patrick Koontz loaded the bases. Trevor Leonard 2 rbi double iced the win advancing Kernersville to title game. Nick Oelker hurled 8 strong innings and Luke Wilhelm closed it out with a 3 strike out 9th inning. Oelker picked up the win with six strikeouts and limiting the Wild to 7 hits and allowing no walks. The combined shutout was aided by some outstanding team defense from everyone.
Bulldogs Win Tourney Opener 7-2 Over Catawba
Drew Baldwin and Zach Joyce combined for a nine hit victory with Baldwin picking up the win with 5 strikeouts. Joyce hurled four stong shutout innings striking out six. Kernersville picked up a quick 3 runs in the first inning on singles from Ashton Paige, Brandon Mckinney, Kenny Swab and rbi groundouts from Kyle Wooden and Trevor Edwards. A 3 run second was started by a Ben Hunt single, with a single from Paige and a walk to McKinney to load the base. A Swab sacrifice fly, and rbi singles from Kyle Wooden and Trevor Edwards pushed the lead to 6-2. A double from Edwards and rbi single from Aaron Jones iced the win in the 6th.
Bulldogs Win Title 6-2
Kyle Wooden and Ben Hunt had key first inning Rbis to put the Bulldogs in front 3-1. A 2 run homer from Brandon McKinney and a Kenny Swab single with heads up baserunning and Wooden second Rbi sac fly accounted for the runs. Solid relief from Corey Norman and Adam Hart backed up DJ Hearsey to hold the Stars to four hits on the mound for their 35th win of the year.
